Born in the city centre of Liverpool 1959, eldest of six children and raised in the town of Kirkby. I was brought up in a poor background and had very little goals or directions accept a love for music of all types. My father was a lover of darts and music, he sang and tried to play an old guitar from time to time, and discovered he had recorded a song in the early sixties.
Two of my brothers took up dart playing fulltime in local and county leagues whilst I started learning to play the guitar. Years later, I formed a four piece band called failsafe; we gigged for about 2 years in county areas as well as a trip to the army bases in Germany.
We were not making much of a living and could not afford vital equipment that we desperately needed, I had a number of my own original songs but had no idea how to go about recording them or even copyrighting them.
Once my first child was born, things went down hill for the band and soon disbanded through lack on funds. I then decided to go into higher education were I gained a bachelors degree at Engineering, foundation degree in computing, and in 2007,a bachelors degree in Information Systems.
After a recent redundancy, I found myself looking towards music as a career, which I had not previously considered as a job. However, I now had the financial means to buy some equipment and start my musical solo career. After gigging at a number of venues, I decided that I must start learning the music business and begin recording new material. Having read so much about the business, I knew it was going to be incredibly difficult to get any sort of contract.
Having heard that a number of artists had made their name through the internet, I came to the conclusion that this was the way to go as I have the ability to create my own website as a platform to build upon (who needs record companies hey!). |
